Place

The Restaurant is located not far from the main train station in Lausanne. It seems to have been recently renovated and it has an interesting decoration, something modern but still with an Indian touch. There are different levels of sitting with a stair to go to a second level.

It is recommended to book in advance, especially on weekends as the place is gaining popularity. We went there on a Saturday night, and it was completely food. They also offered to take away, so it was really busy.

Service

They were smiling at all times, which is a good thing considering the restaurant’s busyness. The service was not fast at all, we were not in a hurry so it didn’t matter too much, but they took quite a lot of time to serve the mains. One good thing is that they were served all at the same time, despite our being a large table.

The wine service was acceptable, and they were attentive at all times to check we had everything we needed.

Something that caught our attention is that we were served by different waiters along the night, not sure what kind of ranging or organization by table they have, in case they have one. But this could be something to improve.

Food

We were a large group and order many different things. All the food seemed to be prepared with love, following traditional Indian recipes.

Ginger Cocktails

We started ordering, by recommendation, some ginger juice and the booze cocktail version of it. They were very refreshing, colourful and nice.

Starters

We order some Samosa and other finger foods. They were ok but nothing too special, the naan bread was the nicest.

Chicken Butter

The sauce was creamy and the portion generous, it came served with rice.

Chicken Biryani

I have been for many years trying to find the traditional Hyderabad Biryani here in Europe and I can say that I finally found it. It was cooked to perfection, with all the spices, the flavour and the colour that this flagship of the Indian food offers.

The spices were well balanced not being too hot or too bland. It was served with Raita the yogourt sauce which was at the same level than the rice. We indeed ordered some more

What we liked

Authentic Indian food in Switzerland

Shanti is a good place to eat Indian food, with tasty and original recipes. It is a place to repeat where the value for money is decent and the staff is nice.
