I was be spending a weekend with friends in Interlaken, Switzerland. We wanted to have a nice meal altogether, so we booked a table at a Steak house restaurant called OX.
The restaurant OX in Interlaken is right at the centre of the small city. It is cosy, with low lights and full of cowbells decorating the ceiling.
The restaurant is mid-size. The layout is large tables made of wood and an open kitchen.
In Switzerland, you should always book a table in advance.
We were welcomed at the entrance and requested to show our COVID certificates before sitting.
Someone took care of our coats and put them in the closet. But, unfortunately, it was winter, and it was pretty cold in Interlaken.
They gave us the menu right away and asked if we wanted to drink something. A party of seven, most of us went direct for the main course.
I considered the service to be slow but still acceptable.
There was one minor incident I disliked. One of our guests dropped a beer glass, and it broke. The waiter came with a cloth, gave it to the guest, and asked him to clean the area.
The waiter was a young guy in and may be new to the business, but the restaurant management needs to address this. You cannot ask the guest to clean the table himself. Otherwise, the service was nice and friendly. I had the feeling that the restaurant was a bit understaffed anyways.
They offered us bread when we sat and some pink sauce resembling mayonnaise.
OX Restaurant is a steakhouse, and we all ordered meat.

Roasted Pork Shank
Slowly roasted. It was delicious. Decent size, and it was very tender inside and crunchy outside. It was probably the best or one of the best of the meats.
It came traditionally with some pasta and small beef cutlets. It was okay, but I missed some personality on this dish. It was some slice of mid-with sauce.
Spare pork ribs
Nicely cooked and marinated, lovely taste.
The T-Bone was a proper size of T-bone but not as you would expect in America. It was well cooked.
- Potato gratin: very creamy and soft potatoes.
- Spinach: All dishes came with spinach, and it was very well seasoned and tasty, not bland at all.
- Jack potato with sour cream: also well cooked. Chimichurri: Chimichurri sauce for every dish. It was nicely balanced and not so spicy as per Swiss standards.

Overall we enjoyed the experience at OX Restaurant & Grill in Interlaken. Although the meat’s quality is good, the prices are expected for the alpine country. Perhaps they could improve the service because it’s a bit disconnected from the rest of the experience.
