Review Restaurant Strandvägen 1 | Stockholm | Sweden

Contents

Sweden is mainly known for a few meals that IKEA has popularized in the last few years. Meatballs with gravy and also the famous Fika pastries.

But the restaurant scene in Stockholm has a lot to offer. Strandvägen 1 is a restaurant that lies in fine casual dining or even dining bar.

Place

Strandvägen 1 is a restaurant right in the city center of Stockholm, just next to the opera house.

It has modern decoration, but with minimalism characteristics of Scandinavian countries.

Dining room at Strandvagen1

There are modern art paintings on the walls. Some of them are very creative and eye-catching. Also, the menus are artistic.

The place has a bar, and its tables are small but enough to have a comfortable dinner. They had candles on every table, and there was a dead flower in the center.

Dead Flower

As is the tendency in many modern bar-restaurants, there is loud music. However, the music was too loud for the time we went there, around 6:30 PM. It was almost impossible to hold a conversation without shouting.

Service

We had a reservation, and when we came, the person at the door took us to our table.

The service was kind but slow. They were quick to bring the drinks and the food but very slow to clean the table. We wanted to order dessert at some point, and it took ages for someone to attend our table.

Food

We had some cocktails to start the night. Is it worth mentioning that this restaurant has a cocktail bar right at the entrance where you can also have food. The cocktails were well mixed with beautiful glasses.

Menu

Decent sized menu for an upscale place. There was a bit of every continent on it. Interesting

Rotisserie Spring Chicken with Romaine Lettuce, Roasted Almonds, Romaine Lettuce, Parmesan and Caesar Dressing

It was a small grilled whole chicken with rosemary on top and a charred lemon on the side. Green salad with croutons with french dressing and fries. A large portion of fries, although they didn’t seem homemade.

Fried Monkfish with lobster Mac & Cheese, Black Truffle, bouillabaisse, and cress.

Crunchy fish served with grated Truffle on top and served on a bed of cress. Inside, the fish was a bit bland.
The mac & cheese had an interesting flavor. Something I had never tried before.

Lobster pasta with Pernod, Fennel, and Mie de Pain

It was the best plate of the night. A decent portion of lobster was perfectly cooked. The meat came out from the tail in seconds.
The dish was topped with watercress and also dill. The pasta was perfectly cooked al dente with a light taste of fennel. It was a beautiful dish.

DESSERTS

Creme Brulee

For dessert, I had a crème brûlée. The caramelized part was okay, but inside lacked texture, and I couldn’t taste much of the vanilla. I saw black dots that I think were burned vanilla at the bottom of the bowl, but the taste was not there.

What I liked from Strandvägen 1

  • The fancy crowd
  • Beautiful lobster pasta
  • Cool cocktails

What could be better at Strandvägen 1

  • Service and food was inconsistent
  • The dead flower on the table
  • Loud music that made impossible to talk

We had a bit of a bittersweet experience at Strandvägen 1 Stockholm

Although the crowd was fun and we sensed a great vibe, the food was inconsistent, and the service was slow. Therefore, there are improvements for this place to increase satisfaction.
